Join Tania and me for our first Yoga Retreat in Kythnos, Greece. Together, we will host an Ashtanga and Yin Retreat at the remarkable K4Kastellas Villa, in a more secluded location than last year. The Yoga Shala looks out across the quiet beach at Kastellas.
This year’s retreat in Kythnos was such a success. With 92 beaches, the characteristically warm Greek welcome and easy access from Athens, the island is an ideal setting for annual Yoga retreats.
I am especially pleased to be leading this retreat alongside Tania Kemou, a fellow Yoga teacher who was born in Greece and now lives and teaches in Berlin.
Styles of Yoga
Each day will include two Yoga classes.
Tania will lead a morning Ashtanga practice centred on the primary series and the foundations of the Ashtanga method. Sessions will explore elements including breath, bandhas (locks), drishti (gaze) and vinyasa. Every class will finish with pranayama (breathing techniques) and a well-earned Savasana (final relaxation).
In the afternoon, I will teach a gentle Yin practice, designed to complement the Ashtanga-led session. In Yin Yoga, postures are held for 2–5 minutes, allowing practitioners to concentrate fully on the mental and breath bodies. This complementary practice draws on the principles of meridian lines to stimulate and improve the movement of energy throughout the body.
There will be ample time between classes to discover the stunning beaches, and a half-day excursion to Chora, Kythnos’s main town, is also included.
Typical Daily Schedule
- 8.30–10.00: Ashtanga practice with Tania
- 10.00–11.00: Brunch is served
- 11.00–16.30: Free time for swimming, booking a massage or walking to the beach
- 17.00–18.30: Yin Yoga with Theresa
- 19.00–20.00: Dinner
On the first day, we will begin with an opening ceremony to help everyone get to know one another a little better. On the final evening, a special closing ceremony will take place after the last Yin practice. The retreat is expected to finish at 10:00 am on the final day, following one last Ashtanga class and brunch.
Meals
Everyone knows how wonderful Greek cuisine can be. K4Kythnos serves what it describes as “Mediterranean food for the soul.” Meals use local, fresh and organic ingredients, and are vegetarian.
